Costa Nord has become the main cultural center around the Serra de Tramuntana, the visit guides the visitor through the history of the emblematic Balearic enclave and goes through the Archduke Ludwig Salvador.
It is located in Valldemossa, one of the most wellknown and touristic town in Majorca, one of the most beautiful, best conserved and protected area in the Island.
It was inaugurated in 2000, the project of the cultural centre was made by Dani Freixes, a prestigious Catalan architect with a big experience of similar projects. This new project was financed by Michael Douglas, actually he is the owner of S’Estaca, the Archduke Ludwig Salvador of Austria’s house dated on XIX.
The works that they made before the opening, to fit the space, to lodge a cultural centre, consisted in restore the house that exists and make a new construction of an Auditorium and a new space that offers the reproduction of the Nixe, the boat that the Archduke used in all his trips around the Mediterranean Sea.
At the end of 2004 Costa Nord was acquired by the Balearic Government and after a brief period it was converted in the headquarter of the Fundació pel desenvolupament sostenible de les Illes Balears that was created at the beginning of 2005 and tis principal objective it is to sensibiliser the tourist that visit the island and the resident, to conserve the environment and the patrimony value of the Island.
